In the last couple of years, the landscape of timepieces has undergone a vibrant transformation, with hues ranging from bold and striking to subtle and sophisticated. However, amidst this kaleidoscope of colors we have so far witnessed in 2024, white seems to stand out. Symbolizing sophisticated minimalism, this monochromatic look actually makes for a classy look on the wrist and can be easily paired with any outfit.

One rare example of this year is the Aluminium White Automatic just announced by Bulgari. First launched in 1998, the Bulgari Aluminum collection features an unconventional yet sporty and striking combination of an aluminum case and rubber strap. It is crowned by a rubber bezel bearing the double “Bvlgari Bvlgari” signature which first graced a Bulgari timepiece in 1977.

Here, the sleek aluminum dial which is inspired by an ancient Roman coin is paired with rhodium-plated indexes and hands coated with Superluminova for easy readability. A splash of color is added by the seconds hand which stands out in red against the white background. There is also a date window at 3 o’clock.

The case has a diameter of 40mm and is water resistant to 100 meters. It is attached to a white rubber strap with aluminum links and pin buckle. Behind the closed case back made of titanium, Bulgari’s Solo Tempo movement sets the pace. The self-winding caliber B77 caliber beats at 28’800 VpH (4Hz) and offers a 42-hour power reserve. The Aluminium White Automatic is limited to 1,000 pieces.

Pricing for the Bulgari Aluminium White Automatic is marked at $3,150 excluding taxes.

Meet the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase with a Special Guest – Drumroll Please – Snoopy https://www.watchtime.com/featured/meet-the-omega-x-swatch-moonswatch-mission-to-the-moonphase-with-a-special-guest-drumroll-please-snoopy/ https://www.watchtime.com/featured/meet-the-omega-x-swatch-moonswatch-mission-to-the-moonphase-with-a-special-guest-drumroll-please-snoopy/#respond Thu, 21 Mar 2024 12:24:26 +0000 https://www.watchtime.com/?p=157878 Just two weeks after the announcement of the unlimited Omega Speedmaster with a white lacquer dial and one and a half months after the auction of eleven sets of the Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold for Orbis International in collaboration with Sotheby’s, the next chapter in the unparalleled success story of the Moonwatch, the Moonswatch and the collaboration between Omega and Swatch, begins. First started two years ago, the growing legacy continues with the Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase.

This time, beloved Snoopy and a moon-phase-indication have their entrance on the dial, hence the name of this quartz-driven chronograph, which is presented in an entirely white 42mm bioceramic case, with the monochromatic style extending to the push pieces, the dial and onto the Velcro strap.

Crafted from Swatch’s Bioceramic, the MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase is another nod to Omega and its legendary Speedmaster Moonwatch, with Snoopy being part of the moon-phase disc positioned at 2 o’clock. The famous cartoon character is comfortably lying on a crescent moon, accompanied by tiny stars and a hidden quote that comes to life in a cool blue glow under UV light: “I can’t sleep without a night light!”.

Snoopy has been NASA’s mascot since 1968. In 1970, Omega received the prestigious “Silver Snoopy Award” from the astronauts at NASA. The distinction recognized Omega’s unique contributions to space exploration, as well as the Speedmaster’s role in saving the Apollo 13 crew.

All of the signature features of the original Speedmaster Moonwatch, the first watch to go to the moon in 1969, are brought to life by this timepiece: the asymmetrical case, the tachymeter-scaled bezel with the dot over the 90 and the typically recessed sub dials for the chronograph counters and subsidiary seconds.

The Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to the Moonphase will be available exclusively at Swatch boutiques from March 26 and priced at approximately $310.

Audemars Piguet Introduces Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm in White Ceramic https://www.watchtime.com/wristwatch-industry-news/audemars-piguet-introduces-royal-oak-selfwinding-34mm-in-white-ceramic/ https://www.watchtime.com/wristwatch-industry-news/audemars-piguet-introduces-royal-oak-selfwinding-34mm-in-white-ceramic/#respond Mon, 07 Aug 2023 12:52:00 +0000 https://www.watchtime.com/?p=150983 Following the success of the black ceramic Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm introduced in 2021, Audemars Piguet now presents an execution in an all-white ceramic case. The sleek white dial is a beautiful backdrop for contrasting pink gold screws, hands and hour-markers. Of course, this watch face, which displays both the date and time, features the signature Grand Tapisserie pattern refined in 2022 for the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak.

As the name suggests, the case has a modest diameter of 34 mm. At just 8.8 mm thick, it is harder than black ceramic, according to Audemars Piguet. It challenged the brand to adapt the their signature alternation of satin-finished and polished chamfers. The brilliance of the white ceramic is accentuated by the eight hexagonal screws, also crafted in pink gold, which secure the bezel to the case.

At the heart of the Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm is the automatic caliber 5800, specially designed in 2020 for this member of the legendary watch family. It offers a 50-hour power reserve and a meticulous finishing quality. The sapphire crystal case back reveals parts of the mechanism and the special 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight. The Côtes de Genève, circular graining, satin and sunray finishes are also visible.

Pricing for the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm is marked at $53,000.

IWC Debuts Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Lake Tahoe https://www.watchtime.com/wristwatch-industry-news/iwc-debuts-big-pilots-watch-perpetual-calendar-top-gun-lake-tahoe/ https://www.watchtime.com/wristwatch-industry-news/iwc-debuts-big-pilots-watch-perpetual-calendar-top-gun-lake-tahoe/#respond Tue, 18 Jul 2023 14:54:00 +0000 https://www.watchtime.com/?p=150707 “The bad news is that time flies. The good news is that you are the pilot.”

This saying about the fleeting nature of time and how to navigate it could be programmatic for IWC’s Big Pilot Watch Perpetual Calendar, a technically complex and robust timepiece that offers many useful functions for the flight through life.

Its intricate perpetual calendar mechanism automatically recognizes the different lengths of the months and leap years until 2100. Its double-moon phase display indicates the moon as seen from the northern and southern hemispheres. The moon phase indicator is so precise that it will only deviate by one day after 577.5 years. Another speciality is the four-digit indication of the year.

This calendar module was the brainchild of the brilliant Kurt Klaus who developed it in the 1980s. In addition, the self-winding IWC-manufactured 52615 caliber ticks inside the 46.5mm ceramic case, boasting a power reserve of 7 days.

In its latest iteration, IWC offers this sporty complication watch as Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Lake Tahoe. Fans of the Schaffhausen-based manufacture will recognize the name addition from an innovation that IWC presented last year. This ceramic color, which IWC and Pantone have specified as “IWC Lake Tahoe”, is inspired by white uniforms and the winter landscape around freshwater Lake Tahoe. Located between California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is a mountainous area that the pilots of the nearby TOPGUN flight school frequently fly over.

The eye-catching design is completed with a pitch-black dial and black hands with white Super-LumiNova, a stainless steel crown, and a white textured rubber strap.

The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Lake Tahoe is available as of July 2023 with pricing marked at $40,900.

With two contrasting, yet complementary models in white and black, Rado is telling a love story via the gift of time.
